BIOASSHARD ARENA Ver. 0.9.271 UPDATED!

 Hello everyone!


This Revision came out fast since bug reports have been mainly focused on the jumping down. So, what’s fixed now:


- The Jump Down on Mission 11 should now work correctly (we tested on all reported places with screenshots and/or videos and got them working properly now).

- Restarting/Retrying/Exiting-reentering Mission 11 with key items will cause them to disappear from the Mission and even while showing on your “inventory” they’re not really there.

      o This one is fixed but there’s a part we didn’t manage to solve just yet. That’s the part of them showing on your “inventory” while they’re not in really. We have to look at it deeper, but since it doesn’t break anything, we didn’t want to delay this revision longer.


Other stuff reported, including the Boss-eating-you-Game-Over-Sexttack camera-out-of-place XD (and I think that’s all that’s been reported so far apart from what’s been fixed) couldn’t be fixed yet because it couldn’t be reproduced on our end, but we’ll keep investigating.

And with this said, and after a few days off to stretch our backs and necks a little XD, we’ll back at working on the final version of the Arena (yay! can’t wait to finally start with the real game).

BIOASSHARD -ARENA- VERSION 0.9.271 RELEASE DATE!

 Hello everyone!


Once again, this time has come… A new release is almost upon us and here we’ll tell you some of the features added to it and also the release date.


+New+ Jump system 2.0

The Jump system got reworked from the ground up. It works basically the same as before for the player, but it’s easier to work with in the editor. No more adding NavLinks (the stuff necessary to make the AI to react to them) manually over the levels, they’re now procedurally generated.

This has been the main focus for this release; reworking this system along with adding the new jump types. Now you have 3 more jump types you can test on in the new Mission 11.

This also added the new jump types for the enemies as well (and this part is the one that required the most time for this release to be completed along with having to make new animations).

And we noticed that, sometimes, randomly, some enemy will get stuck in a jump… The thing is that the code for the jump is always the same, and the collisions for the enemy with any wall, floor, etc. gets deactivated so there’s no logical reason for them to get stuck. I don’t want to blame unreal on this because it’s more than probable that we missed something when coding the jumps for them. Anyway, they’re still killable so, if you find any stuck enemy, feel free to get that kill :P

This will require some iterations and hopefully for the next version it will be totally fixed.


+New+ WIP (temp?) jump camera

As part of the new Jump System, we also implemented a WIP camera for them. Nothing fancy, just to give it some more strength to the movement. We put the “temp?” part because we’re not sure you’re going to like it or prefer it the old way. So just let us know when you play it.


+New+ Interaction System totally revamped (3rd version/time ~ hopefully this one is the definitive)

Yeah, as you read it. It probably still needs some iteration, but so far so good. I noticed no problem at all at interacting with anything except sometimes receiving an attack/dodging it near an interaction, will remove the prompt in the screen for the interaction but still works if you press the button to do it.

Now, when there is more than one thing to interact with, the closest one gets priority, instead of the last one that entered the “interaction field”.

Also tested it with all the doors and they’re all working properly no matter the angle and also the door camera is working again (something that stopped working in the past for a not so clear reason XD).


+Fix+ Weapon upgrades aren't read when playing a different/newer version than the one where the upgrade was done

This one needed some strange workarounds, because the values were there saved, but somehow, they didn’t update for the weapons themselves, so we had to force that reload. 

Also, we implemented some checks to avoid losing the upgrades when changing Rank Tier. I think we nailed it but it’s something really hard to test and we didn’t want to spend much more time on it, especially when the way this is working here in the Arena has nothing to do with the way it’ll work in the Game with the real save system in place.


+New+ Content for the Showcase Level: Designs

+New+ Content for the Showcase Level: Enemies

Yeah, some new sneak peaks have been added to the Showcase level. Nothing more to add, just wanted to make sure you noticed it XD.


The FAQ for Bioasshard Arena got its final update

As it sounds. Make sure you pay a read to it in case you missed anything. We think everything that could cause a doubt is answered in there.



And that’s all about this that we needed to remark, I think. Again, we mentioned this in the previous releases but just once more to be on the clear side XD:

We’re aiming to finish the Arena as soon as possible, that’s why we focused only on adding the necessary mechanics to call it done, before jumping to the Game. And that’s why there’s no new Sexttacks (or enemy types or new bosses, or put w/e you want in here that is not necessary for the Arena) added. Thanks for your understanding and be ready for the Game where there will be lots of those (Sexttacks, enemies, bosses, …).

 +Change+ Every interactable is now a 'child' of a Parent class containing all the shared code for them to be interacted

 +Change+ The mission selector screen now allows scrolling through missions

 +Change+ Tweaks have been made to Mission 1 in terms of enemy's behavior

 +Fix+ Changing your tier level resets the weapon upgrades

 +Fix+ There's a jump down in the "VR Level" (Mission 1 & 10) that can get Julia stuck out of bounds

 +Fix+ Closed doors aren't showing their associated camera

 +Fix+ Inflation keeps causing flickering on Julia's belly when it's not at full

 +Fix+ Reading a document with a usable item equipped (does not happen with weapons) show both the item and the document in the hand

BIOASSHARD -ARENA- VER. 0.8.194 UPDATED!

Hello everyone!


Sorry for the delay in getting ready a revision for this Release. We were somewhat “forced” to take a week off (we needed those vacations honestly, especially with the summer heat) and that prevented us from working on fixing the reported bugs. But well, that’s the past and the revision is now ready to download.

This should fix everything reported. The “CONTROLS & CHANGELOG.txt” file has been updated with the changes/fixes/additions along with the new credits.

The doors in some missions (especially Mission 7) that were broken when interacted by enemies are now fixed.

The enemies in the Mansion on Mission 2, are now spawning as they did previously to this release.

The inventory/itembox getting empty after retrying or continuing from the Result screen (mainly noticeable on Mission 10) should now be fixed as well.

Same goes for the key items not respawning when retrying.

Some stats weren’t resetting as they should causing them to accumulate over missions in the Result screen, causing, for example, the inability to obtain any extra related to completing one mission without dying if you already died in any other mission.

And then, back to Mission 9, we moved away the card readers from the doors a bit, and this should prevent the door open/examine prompt problem from appearing. All doors should now be interactable without a problem (we both tested the entire mission again with the same/perfect results). 

The couple items reported as being impossible to grab are now fixed as well.

And last but not least, we added a visual representation of the current state of the switches (ON/OFF) for the final door.


And that’s that, get your download now😊and don’t forget to report how’s the performance for you in the Mission 9 since it’s a stress-test for level sizes and enemy quantity.

Ps. I’ve seen some noticing a small hitch when opening some doors on Mission 9; that’s basically the forced loading on interiors/exterior to make sure everything is there when crossing a door. The hitch is more or less noticeable depending of your machine, or more specifically the drive’s speed where the game is stored (it varies a lot depending on if you’re using a HDD, SSD or NVMe SSD).

BIOASSHARD -ARENA- V0.8.194 RELEASE DATE!

 Hello everyone!


Is that time again, where we give you a date for a new release of Bioasshard Arena!

This time, and since it took us more than expected to get it out, the date is pretty close…


Now, before the release, there’s some stuff I need to talk about (you know, the usual way to expand on some important points of the changelog)


First and foremost is something that I shouldn’t need to mention since we already did with the past two or three releases but just in case, once more: No new Sexttack animations are added, those will have to wait for the real game, the main target here for the Arena is to finish implementing some crucial mechanics and making animations is too time consuming.


+New+ Mission 9

This mission is somewhat similar to the 8th one. If the 8th one was more focused to stress-test how many enemies could be on screen (along with the new mechanic: the egg) this one is to stress test it even deeper with enemies and level size. The level is about one hour long and is full of enemies and levels streaming in and out. So, we expect you can report back the performance you got on this Mission 9 (which of course also features newly added mechanics)


+New+ Mission 10

It has been requested some times in the past, to be able to play the mission 1 (the weapon unlocking level) but without the pressure of a timer. So, this is it, here you can spend all the time you want/can with no pressure other than the enemies hunting you down. It’s your one stop to make some money.


+New+ Weapon Upgrade System / +Change+ All the weapons are back to their Level 1

This is one of the biggest new additions: you can now upgrade your weapons. But this causes one collateral effect: this is, they’re back to level 1 meaning they’re not so powerful and not so fast as in the previous release for example. You’ll have to get used to it and upgrade them to get them back to shape and even better than before.


+New+ You can now use mouse buttons on Remapping Menu

Yeah, previously it wasn’t possible to use the main mouse buttons (but you could use other mouse buttons if any). Now you can use them as well for remapping. This is untested on my end (I mean, I tested it works but reset them back to original because I’m fine with the default mapping) so use it “at your own risk” :P.


+Fix+ Receiving an attack at the exact same frame as receiving a grab causes a hard-lock for the enemy trying to grab, making him unkillable

This one ‘appeared’ in the previous release and now we did all we can to prevent that from happening. The thing to comment on this is that because is something so random, that it’s hardly testable… One can wait for it to happen and will never do but now maybe you start playing and get it even in the title screen XD. The thing is that we tested it in both our PCs and got 0 of those, so hopefully is now gone.


And that’s that. Make sure you read the Changelog TXT file when the release is done and take a look at the “Known Bugs” section at the bottom of it, to know what you could find.

BIOASSHARD -ARENA- VER. 0.7.132 REV.1

 Hello everyone!


Here it is the Revision for the 0.7.132 version.


It took more than just a few days, but that’s because solving the door problem, made me realize about another important issue related to the loading/unloading of streaming levels, where if you cross an opened by the enemy door, no levels would be streamed in/out.

So, this specifically took us a bit more time to figure out. It should be working now though. We even uploaded the revision the moment I compiled it, but didn’t publish it until more tests were made.

Cerberus have been de-buffed a little bit too to make them act less like final bosses XD.

Cerberus should now be able to jump over again instead of trying to attack or grab if Julia is close to them.

The Egg dispensers should no longer get locked in dropping eggs endlessly.


And ended up confirming a reported bug where the inventory gets wiped in Mission 2, when going from the Sewers to the Exterior Area. I’ve reproduced it but I couldn’t fix it yet, because it’ll require me more time to dive deeper on the code specific to that (especially when nothing has changed in there since a long time now and that bug wasn’t there before). The fix will come with the next version. The Mission is still doable even without the handgun or the assault rifle, as you can still get the other weapons (and you also have the physical attacks and the knife).

BIOASSHARD ARENA Ver. 0.7.132

 Well everyone, it's this time again!


This is way sooner that usually but you already know why.


We'll go straight to the point, so make sure you read the next part before downloading.

+ The enemies can now interact with doors


As it sounds, some enemies can now chase you through doors as well. So if you thought you were safe after crossing a door, then think again xD. Still there are some safe rooms enemies can get into.


+ The new mission (Mission 8) - This is a somewhat special shooting range level. It also works as a stress level to see how it runs for everyone. So please, if you want to help, make sure you do this:


  1. Once you turn the lever, the music will start and enemies will appear
  2. This is wave 1
  3. There's a total of 10 waves
  4. Everytime you finish a wave the music lowers its volume and you have some time to get back to shape and replenish your inventory <- Take THIS moment into account to know the current wave.
  5. Then when you notice the game starts going slow for you, write down the wave you are and report it back to us, so we can have an idea of the average number of infected that can be spawned at the same time in a room.
  6. As a reference: Meguido's PC went into a slowdown on wave 7 and Mr.Versus X's PC did it perfectly through the 10 waves with just a small hitch in wave 10 (about a second only)
